Integrated Optical Telecommunication Devices

Our laboratory is collaborating on many initiative aimed at developing novel integrated optical devices that take advantages of the standardize silicon photonic fabrication processes now commercially available. In collaboration with colleagues at McGill University, we are investigating optical filters that tunable in both bandwidth and center wavelength for deployment in gridless telecommunication networks. Research is also on going on novel low-power modulators. The ability to build advanced optical receivers architecture is exploited to reduce the processing speed required in the electronic domain. This will be useful to push the optical transmission speed above 100 Gb/s while keeping the electronic power consumption under control.
